Table Tennis is not only a popular sport, but it's one of the most fun, inclusive and accessible sports there is. It's for people of all ages and abilities, and it's one of the easiest sports to maintain a healthy social distancing while playing. Para table tennis is the third largest Paralympic sport in terms of athlete numbers and is practiced in more than 100 countries. The sport is governed by the International Table Tennis Federation through the International Para Table Tennis Committee (ITTF-PTT). Athletes from all physical and intellectual impairment groups can play table tennis, however, only eligible standing, sitting and intellectual impairment classes can compete at the Paralympic Games. Men and women can participate in individual and team events. Table Tennis Australia is partnering with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Paralympics Australia (PA) to implement strategies to increase the numbers of talented athletes with a disability entering and then progressing through the Para Table Tennis Performance Pathway. The TTA National Pathway Development Officer (Para), Kara Retford’s, key role is to establish relationships, links and projects with local / State & Territory Disability organisations / Rehabilitation centres and Club / State & Territory Table Tennis Associations with the aim of creating sustainable Para table tennis pathways. To get involved in Para Table Tennis please contact Kara Retford
