Matt Lewis - Gold Medalist Australian Wheelchair Rugby Team
Matt Lewis is a local Pakenham guy who as a result of an accident has been left with multiple amputations and several injuries. Despite this, Matt is pursuing his love for the sport of Wheelchair Rugby or 'Murderball' as it's lovingly referred to, and recently won a gold medal at 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Despite his challenges, he is moving forward and in the process aims to inspire others with the experience of his journey.
Matt Lewis was introduced to wheelchair rugby by Victorian coach Bryce Alman. In 2013/14, he played for Sierra Storm in the USA national league for five months and won a number of MVP awards. In 2014, he was selected to play for the national team the Australian Steelers. And more recently, Matt was a member of the team that won gold at the 2016 Rio Paralympics after defeating the United States 59–58 in the final!!
The team at AAA Play are very grateful for Matt's support over the past three years as a program ambassador.
